Proper grounding is essential and is the responsibility of the homeowner.

Myakka Technologies does not employ a qualified lightning expert. We use Windemuller Technical Services for the lightning protection of our towers because of their excellent reputation in our area. You can contact them at (941) 355-8822 or on their web page at www.windemuller.com.

Because we live in central Florida, lightning is a continual threat to electrical equipment. As such, we need to be very vigilant about securing the proper grounding for our electronics equipment. While a direct lightning strike will almost certainly destroy most of the electronic devices in your house and could easily cause extensive fire damage, indirect strikes happening miles away can travel through the ground and enter your house causing major damage to improperly grounded electronic equipment. Make sure your equipment is properly grounded. Consult the National Electrical Code or a qualified electrical contractor like Windemuller to insure that your grounding is adequate.

Lightning arrestors and surge suppressors are recommended for proper installations of the Wavebolt transceivers. Good suppressors and arrestors will stop most electrical surges before they can get to your valuable equipment. They will not stop a direct lightning strike. Most cheap surge suppressors are good only as a convenient on/off switch. Be careful! You are responsible for the equipment.

Below is a list of a few suppressor suppliers we would suggest our customers contact to get information on proper suppression. Windemuller can also help you in this area.

The best approach to lightning is to unplug your equipment during a lightning storm.
